In 2012, we left Italy for Canada, carrying our suitcases - and our recipes from home. Outside the window, long winters and landscapes so different from the ones we grew up in. But in the kitchen? In the kitchen, we were still home.
The smell of Sunday sauce, handmade pasta, bread slowly rising - these were our way of holding on across the distance. Italian food has never been just food to us. It's identity, it's memory, it's the way we say I love you without using the words.
Italy on the Table was born from this: from being Italian far from Italy, and from realizing that certain flavors are never truly left behind.
